IRH Admissions Process
Thank you for your interest in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours, Integrated Rehabilitation and Humanities Program
Students who seek to apply to the IRH Program must complete the mandatory IRH Supplemental Application. Our Supplemental Application form will become available on March 15, 2025 9:00 a.m. and the deadline for submission is April 30, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. EST. This form will not be available for submission after this deadline.
Please Note: Internal students are required to complete BOTH the MOSAIC component of the application process AND the Supplemental Application. Admissions decisions will be made on the basis of the Supplemental Application, and the rest of these admission requirements:
- One full year of university undergraduate studies (from any program)
- Applicants require the prerequisite Grade 12 biology U or Level I university biology component.
- Level I minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 6.0 (C+) on a 12.0 scale.
Before accessing the Supplemental Application:
- The Applicant must have a valid McMaster Student Number and must ensure that it is submitted accurately on the Supplemental Application.
- The Applicant is advised to prepare the long answer questions before accessing the Supplemental Application and to copy and paste these responses to the appropriate form. A blank sample copy of the application is available here.
- In order to complete the Supplemental Application, the Applicant must use a recent version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari. The browser’s security settings must be set at or below default levels. Javascript and cookies must be enabled in order to ensure successful submission.
- Submitted Supplemental Applications are assigned a confirmation number. The Applicant is advised to retain this number for the purposes of verifying submission of the Supplemental Application.
- The Applicant is strongly advised to print the Application immediately after it has been submitted for consideration. The Applicant will be given an opportunity to do so immediately after submission.
We recommend drafting and preparing your written response before the IRH Supplementary Application submission portal opens. There is a character limit applicants need to be aware of, written statements must not exceed 3000 characters (approximately 500 words) in length.
Verifying Your Application:
- After successfully submitting your application, you will be taken to a Confirmation Page where you will be given a Confirmation Number and a chance to Print Your Application (required for your records).
- After Submission and Confirmation, you can verify that your application is in our records by accessing the verification page.
We expect that all decisions will be made by June 2025. We welcome applications from students transferring from other universities. If you are a student coming from outside of McMaster, please feel free to contact us (irhbhsc@mcmaster.ca) and we will be happy to assist you with the application process.

The Applicant must submit a Personal Statement for the IRH Supplementary Application.
This written statement provides the Applicant with an opportunity to demonstrate to the Admissions Committee their strengths and capabilities as well as any achievements that distinguish themselves as a desirable applicant to the Integrated Rehabilitation & Humanities (IRH) Program.
Personal Statements typically include information about what led the Applicant to apply to the Program, the Applicant’s preparedness for study in the Program, and the Applicant’s future aspirations once graduated from the Program. The Personal Statement is also an opportunity for the Applicant to highlight their non-academic achievements. The IRH Supplementary Application is a mandatory component of the application process to the IRH Program. The IRH Supplementary Applicaiton is considered in consort with your grade point average and biology course. A high GPA alone does not guarantee admission to the program.

Your written response to the IRH Supplementary Application must be entirely your own. Discussion with others, including current program students, is not permitted. Posting answers to third party websites or online forums is strictly prohibited. Use of admissions consultants is prohibited. We do not endorse any of these enterprises and note that use of these services to craft your Supplementary Application is by definition a violation of academic integrity. Failure to comply with these terms is considered a breach of academic integrity and any violation is grounds for removal from the applicant pool (or removal from the program if such a violation is discovered after admission).
Further, any individual who is offered, and accepts, admission to the IRH Program but who, upon arrival at McMaster University, is determined to be inconsistent with the person portrayed in this application, will be asked to withdraw from the Program. Posting your answers on the internet, whether draft or final, use of paid admissions consultants, plagiarism, use of generative artificial intelligence, or otherwise working with others to prepare your responses is not permitted and may result in removal from the applicant pool or withdrawal of an offer of admission.
